Display - Chi Mei Abandons 15" LCD Monitors for 17", 19"

Chi Mei will be withdrawing from 15" LCD monitor production, switching focus to the 17" and 19" market segment.
Prices for 17" LCD monitors have now dropped below NT$10,000 (US$295; US$1= NT$33.9), whereas 15" models are currently retailed at NT$7,500 (US$221.2). The slight price difference has presented customers a sweet point in 17" monitors, and is encouraging Chi Mei to quit the shrinking 15" market.
Of the 26 new offerings Chi Mei is slated to roll out in 2005, not one will be a 15" model. No aggressive move will be taken to retarget the 15" segment unless substantial demand for 15" LCD monitors emerges in price-sensitive tenders.
